Kanye West taken down by Zappos’ secret weapon: humor
Whoops — Kanye West went and started a feud with someone who has a powerful weapon apparently not possessed by the volatile rapper: a sense of humor.
Guess who won?
West took a shot at online shoe retailer Zappos during a Tuesday podcast with Bret Easton Ellis that touched on topics ranging from film to fashion, E! News reported. During the chat, West slammed Zappos’ chief exec, Tony Hsieh.
“I got into this giant argument with the head of Zappos that he’s trying to tell me what I need to focus on,” West said. “Meanwhile, he sells all this [expletive] product to everybody, his whole thing is based off of selling [expletive] product.”
Zappos, long known for its humorous and successful approach to social media, on Thursday tweeted about a new product, tailored to West’s rather specific expectations.
Now selling for $100,000 in the Zappos.com Gear category? A truly [expletive] product, complete with plunger and free shipping.
“This is the throne, everyone has been watching,” reads the toilet’s description, referring to Kanye’s recent effort with Jay Z. “Whether you’re #1 or #2, your clique will show no mercy, even in Paris.”
“The perfect gift for the man who has everything,” it continued, linking to the E! News story by way of explanation.
By the way, that sound you just heard? That’s Zappos dropping the mike.
Annnnd ... out.
