Jonas Brothers explain (rather pedestrian) reasons for breakup

The Jonas Brothers have broken up as a musical group, they announced Tuesday, and on Wednesday they went on “Good Morning America” to explain why the band is no more.

Sort of. Well, they did explain, but it wasn’t much fun. Funereal is more like it.

Basically, the explanation boiled down to “we’re family first” and “we were butting heads over the music.” Which was woefully free of the kind of behind-the-scenes scandal that would make the breakup more interesting.

Nick Jonas said he was the one who first broached the topic with the other guys.

“I said, ‘Look, I feel like we’ve had some complications within the group for a long time [and] without addressing them, I think this train will fall off the tracks,” he told Robin Roberts on “GMA.” “It was a tough conversation. It was the first time we really had that real conversation.”

Joe said he and Nick would be focusing on individual projects and acting in the future, while Kevin shared news that he’d be targeting his love of the business side of things, working with a start-up fund that would ultimately position brands to target millennials. He also noted that he’ll be busy being a new father.

Nick noted: “We’re family first and that’s always been our main priority and so honesty within what we do as a group was really important.”

There will be one last blast from the trio, however. “We’re going to release four of the unreleased songs from the album,” Kevin said. “And we put together the live tracks from the last summer tour -- about 10 songs as well -- so we’ll be giving that to our fan-club members, as a gift from us.”

And what about a possible reunion down the road? “We’re playing it one step at a time right now,” Nick said. “And like we said, rebuilding as brothers first.”

In other Jonas news, Joe rejected rumors that he was suffering from a drug problem, allegedly involving his girlfriend, Blanda Eggenschwiler, as well. (She was previously implicated in sex-tape rumors about Joe too.)

“It’s obviously not true,” he told People. “I’ve never touched heroin in my life. Neither has my girlfriend. It’s hilarious to me, but also frustrating as well. It pissed me off when it’s about my girl and even about myself.”

When strangers on the street would ask if they could hug him and ask how rehab had been, he said he would tell them, “‘You tell me because I’ve never been.”
