About that Jon Hamm rumor (P.S. ‘Mad Men’ just premiered in L.A.)
The “Mad Men” season six premiere happened Wednesday night at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, and we’re going to try to take the high road and write about it without discussing the Jon Hamm rumor that’s been circulating this week.
Yep, we’re going to talk about who was in the room — the likes of Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Elisabeth Moss and Jessica Pare — and definitely not about the, er, elephant in the room.
The night was full of delicious tidbits: Vincent Kartheiser, who plays Pete Campbell on the show, revealing to People that he’d practiced his proposal for Alexis Bledel on his costars Moss and Pare, and Kartheiser’s on-screen wife, Alison Brie, pondering what she might get the newly engaged couple for their wedding. Why ruin such a romantic mood by going below the belt, even if any belt that might be involved would’ve been holding up package-presenting polyester pants?
We’re going to relay how Moss told Us Weekly, “We’ve all been through so many different stages of our lives and we’ve literally seen every single person in the cast go through so much personally and professionally and it’s incredible to watch people grow,” and we’re certainly not going to make any jokes about anything else growing.
And with a list of attendees including Kiernan Shipka, Teyonah Parris and Robert Morse from the cast, we’re not going to pay extra attention to Jennifer Westfeldt, longtime girlfriend of Hamm, as we’re flat-out envious of that woman. (No double entendre there. We’re dead serious.)
Because it would be completely inappropriate to discuss a New York Daily News report citing an AMC insider who claims that Hamm had been asked to wear underwear while filming the sixth season of the drama, so as to minimize the appearance of his extraordinary man parts under tight trousers. It would be even tackier to mention the part where the insider said they had to Photoshop certain promotional pictures to make Hamm’s presence less, ahem, distracting, especially if it were blown up to the size of a bus advertisement or something like that.
When asked about the rumor Wednesday night, Hamm played it cool as well, telling omg! that yes, he had heard the rumor, “But I don’t need to talk about that.”
High road all the way.
