Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin split, call it ‘conscious uncoupling’
The Oscar-winning actress and the Grammy-winning singer announced the split via Paltrow’s website, Goop.
Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Chris Martin have called it quits.
The pair has decided to separate after more than 10 years of marriage, they announced Tuesday on Paltrow’s GOOP lifestyle site in a post titled “Conscious Uncoupling.”
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” the pair wrote. “We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.”

The Oscar-winning actress, 41, and the Coldplay frontman, 37, wed in December 2003 and have two children together, Apple, 9, and Moses, 7. They have homes in Martin’s native England and Los Angeles.
“We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been,” the note continued.
“We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner. Love, Gwyneth & Chris”

The post also featured an older photo of the couple lazing about on the grass, plus several articles about how to handle a separation.
Earlier this year, the “Iron Man 3” actress seemingly settled a feud with Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter following rumors of an expose that promised juicy details about the mother of two’s marriage to Martin and alleged infidelity, according to Us Weekly. No story like that was published, however.
Paltrow and Martin began dating in 2002 and announced that Paltrow was pregnant in December 2003. Two days after the announcement, they tied the knot in a quiet ceremony in Santa Barbara on Dec. 5.

People’s Most Beautiful Woman of 2013, who had previously been engaged to actor Brad Pitt, opened up about her rocky marriage in Glamour U.K. (via Us Weekly) last spring.
“It’s hard being married,” she said in the magazine’s June issue. “You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We’re the same as any couple.”
“I asked my dad once, ‘How did you and Mom stay married for 33 years?’” she continued, referring to her parents, director Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner. “And he said, ‘Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time’... “I think that’s what happens. When two people throw in the towel at the same time, then you break up, but if one person’s saying, ‘Come on, we can do this,’ you carry on.”
Paltrow said that she and Martin “laugh” together and are “good friends” who “like to do the same stuff.”
On Monday, the actress, who’s been a guest star on Fox’s “Glee,” shared a sneak peek at the show’s 100th episode featuring her disco dancing in a nightclub.
And to think, most people just call it a breakup.
