Giada De Laurentiis slices finger during live Thanksgiving show
Holy mascarpone! Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis carved more than a turkey during Food Network’s Live Thanksgiving special on Saturday.
The “Giada at Home” star sliced her finger with a knife during the culinary live broadcast with colleagues Alton Brown, Bobby Flay and Ina Garten. The carving occurred when her knife slipped as she was slicing a turkey roll she’d prepared, and the incision went into her nail bed and ran from her index finger up to her perfectly manicured nail.
Hey, Thanksgiving is no walk in the park. People get hurt!
“It throbs a little bit,” she said on a Monday appearance on the “Today” show.
“I was slicing my turkey porchetta,” she added. “I was slicing it in the background to feed it to Bobby, Alton and Ina and, unfortunately, I guess I just sliced through my finger at the same time. When I realized it, I went to the sink to put pressure to see how big it was.”
There was quite a bit of blood, she said, “which I think Ina really felt uncomfortable with. I think everybody kind of freaked out.
“We don’t do live television usually on Food Network, so these things usually can get hidden. It couldn’t get hidden.”
The 43-year-old chef sought medical attention, Brown announced after a commercial break, and returned to the broadcast about 15 minutes later, RadarOnline reported.
“She seemed to go pale and got very quiet putting pressure on it and whispering to Ina that it was bad,” a witness told the site. “She looked like she was about to faint.”
De Laurentiis then took to Instagram to share the war wound.
“Before & After,” she wrote, captioning a graphic photo of the sliced finger. “An adjustment to my normal mani! #backtonormalin2wks #thanksgivinglive”
De Laurentiis previously shared a photo of her festive holiday nail art.
“Festive #thanksgiving #nails!” she wrote, probably to the delight of her manicurist.
Her co-hosts also gave her a ribbing during the special’s post-show Google+ Hangout.
And Brown also got in on the fun via social media, tweeting “#savegiada’sfinger” and joking, “We did locate the end of Giada’s left index finger in the stuffing. Rushing to hospital now.”
“I’m gonna be fine, just gonna get some stitches in this finger,” she said in an Instagram video posted by makeup artist Julie Corinne Morgan. “It’s all black and blue.”
