With $15 million in debt, TV stars Duane Martin (“Real Husbands of Hollywood”) and Tisha Campbell-Martin (“Dr. Ken”) are looking for a fresh start, filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in California.

The couple have been married for 20 years and both came to prominence in the 1990s, with Tisha playing Martin Lawrence’s love interest on Fox’s “Martin,” and Duane breaking through in “Above the Rim,” a film co-starring Tupac Shakur.

According to bankruptcy documents obtained by E! News, the two have around $15 million in debt and only $313,000 in assets. That includes over $300,000 in personal and real estate property, including three cars, five motorcycles and a house.

When news of the bankruptcy broke this week, Campbell-Martin took to Twitter and explained a bit more about the situation she and her husband are in, before eventually deleting the tweets wholesale.

“Hey anybody got nickel? Yeah guys it’s not like what’s being reported at ALL but it’s funny tho. Quick statement, have y’all seen the movie ‘The Big Short?’… Yup we did file but its becuz my hubby n I invested n real estate, got involved w some loans b4 the BANKS caused the market to crash … Obviously couldn’t agree 2 a settlement with the banks, so we filed to reorganize, that’s all, but I so appreciate the genuine concern 4 my fam. I got the best supporters ever thanks TWITTER FAM,” Campbell-Martin wrote.

Court paperwork suggests that the couple earned over $7,600 per month, but were spending over double that, nearly $17,000, every month. Complicating matters is the fact that Campbell-Martin’s current gig on ABC’s “Dr. Ken” has yet to be picked up by the network. The news isn’t all bad, though, as husband Duane’s series, BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood,” was recently renewed for a fifth season to air later this year.
