Gov. Cuomo warns Khloe Kardashian & Co. about Rich Soil logo

It’s not every day that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warns Khloe Kardashian about anything.

But the governor’s administration sent out a “pro forma” letter to Rich Soil, Kardashian’s husband Lamar Odom’s clothing line, warning that the logo used on one of the brand’s T-shirts might be in violation of copyright law, according to the Associated Press.

Kardashian was photographed last week wearing one of the tees from her Rich Soil brand, which NBA star Odom launched in 2009 with designer Jonathan Garcia.

Apparently the logo, which bears a silhouette of the Statue of Liberty above a farm with the words “Rich Soil New York,” resembles the emblem of a New York farm program. The governor’s administration sent the letter to the brand alerting it of the alleged violation. The state’s logo also includes a similar image of the Statue of Liberty above the farm and crop rows with the words “Pride of New York” circling it.

“The State of New York has invested substantial time, effort and resources creating the respect and goodwill associated with the trademark,” Susan Rosenthal, a lawyer for the Department of Agriculture, said in a letter sent to the company on Friday, the New York Daily News reports.

The logo was created to identify food grown in New York.

The letter demands that the L.A.-based company should halt sales of shirts, which go for $35, and report how much money it made off of the design. A response is expected within five days or the state will take legal action, according to documents obtained by the newspaper.

The clothing line is meant to promote “creative design, spiritual iconic imagery, and the shared idea that growth can come from virtually anywhere,” according to its website.

The shirt is no longer available on the company’s website.

Sounds like a rich problem, indeed.
