‘Office’ star Craig Robinson pleads guilty in Bahamas drug case
“The Office” actor Craig Robinson was detained and ordered to pay a fine Wednesday in the Bahamas for drug possession, according to reports.
The actor, who played upwardly mobile warehouse foreman Darryl Philbin on the NBC comedy and has appeared in several stoner films, was stopped in Nassau when customs agents found a small amount of marijuana and pills that they deemed suspicious as he was trying to board a plane headed to the United States, Supt. Stephen Dean of the Royal Bahamas Police Force told the Associated Press.
“It was nothing major,” Dean said.
The 41-year-old had been in the Bahamas for a comedy show at the Atlantis hotel, TMZ reported. He was taken into custody and later appeared in front of a magistrate without a lawyer. He pleaded guilty to two counts of drug possession; prosecutors told the court that Robinson had half a gram of marijuana and 18 Ecstasy pills on him.
The “This Is the End” actor, who appeared at the hearing wearing a T-shirt and shorts, said that he brought the drugs from the United States and that he didn’t know they were illegal in the Bahamas.
The magistrate fined him $1,000, ordered him to be turned over to authorities and removed from the country. He could have faced four years in prison, the Associated Press and TMZ said.
The Bahamas case comes several years after Culver City police arrested the actor on suspicion of possessing Ecstasy and methamphetamine in 2008. Those charges were later dismissed after Robinson completed a drug diversion program.
