Watching Russell Wilson be in love with Ciara is so much fun.

“The One,” the Seattle Seahawks quarterback said on Instagram after the ESPY Awards, where the singer had presented and he’d taken one for the team during Joel McHale’s opening bit by playing along with a joke about the questionable play call that ended this year’s Super Bowl with game-deciding interception of a Wilson pass.

Yes, at the start of the broadcast, McHale urged Wilson not to throw him the mic: “Just hand it to me,” said the host. “Seriously. It is the obvious choice.”

“Too soon, Joel,” Wilson replied. “Way too soon.”

Fortunately, that Seahawks-sinking goal-line grab didn’t win the “best play” ESPY, which Ciara had the honor of presenting. Instead, she got to hand the trophy to the New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. for his insane one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys. Otherwise, things might have gotten, well, awkward.

The couple cut a sharp image on the red carpet Wednesday in complementary outfits that they swore weren’t intentionally coordinated. Mm hmm. Right.

“I think we kind of on the same wavelength without even knowing,” said Ciara, who rocked a floor-length, black-to-plum ombre Elie Saab gown and an unusually tasteful high slit. “He sent me his suit and then I had my dress and then it all worked out kind of perfectly.”

(Check out the Instagram link above to see the whole gown, belt included.)

Wilson, in a plum Calvin Klein Collection suit with a black shirt and tie, immediately turned it around and gave all red-carpet credit to “this beautiful girl” who was his date.

“The crazy part of it is, she flew from Cincinnati” -- where she’d sung the national anthem the night before at the MLB All-Star Game -- “and got here about 2:15 today,” he said. They hit the the red carpet about two hours later.

We’re definitely praying for you, Russell. Be strong!
