Chris Brown was charged Tuesday with hit-and-run and driving without a valid license, both misdemeanors stemming from a May fender bender — and he promptly hit Twitter to proclaim his innocence.

“It’s not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous,” the singer said in a series of tweets. “I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene. She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures.

“My lawyers will be contacting you. I will not stand for this bullying and yellow journalism!”

Breezy also changed his Twitter avatar to a picture of himself with the woman outside her Mercedes after the tap and made his profile background a shot he’d taken of the car’s rear bumper.

“My profile pic is the pic I took of the persons car after ‘the hit and run’. NO damage. Just a dirty car.once again, I gotta clear my name,” he wrote.

Prosecutors allege Brown didn’t produce a valid driver license because he didn’t have one at the time and didn’t swap proof of insurance with the other driver at the time of the accident, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office told L.A. Now.

If convicted, Brown faces up to six months in jail on each offense. Also, with the singer on probation for assaulting Rihanna in 2009, the city attorney will refer the case to the L.A. County district attorney’s office for review. If Brown were found to have violated his probation in the assault case, he could be looking at up to four years in prison.
