Chet Hanks, a.k.a Chet Haze, a.k.a. Tom Hanks’ oldest son with Rita Wilson, was giving thanks a day early after the admission of sobriety he’d posted online last week bubbled up into the headlines.

“Thanks for the support everybody. I’m coming up on 60 days clean/sober and I can honestly say I’ve never felt better,” the 24-year-old singer said in a series of tweets Wednesday. “Once I decided to change my lifestyle, blessings began to manifest IMMEDIATELY. But the truth is I’ve always been blessed.

“Sometimes you have to go through missteps to end up where you’re meant to be, at which point you realize they were never missteps,” he said. “They were just what you needed to go through at the time you were going through it, in order to grow and progress.”

In an Instagram video posted a week ago, the younger Hanks told followers he was speaking out as a preemptive strike against a tabloid that was threatening to go public with the story -- “It’s true,” he confirmed -- that he had been in rehab for cocaine addiction.

He admitted struggling with substance abuse since age 16 and said he was no longer using drugs or alcohol, because finally he’d decided to get help.

“I’m learning to accept my faults and be ok with being human. If anybody that sees this struggles with addiction, feel free to reach out,” he wrote in a caption accompanying his video, which included a profane slam against the media.

Oh, yeah, the tabloid published the story anyway; it’s “on newsstands now!”

Tom Hanks and Wilson have another son together, 18-year-old Truman, and the “Forrest Gump” actor has a son and daughter, Colin and Elizabeth, from his first marriage, to Samantha Lewes. Colin, 37 and an actor, will be seen on the small screen when “Fargo” returns to FX next fall for a second season. Elizabeth, 32, is a writer.

The three oldest kids have all had parts in movies produced by or starring their dad.
