Bristol Palin engaged to Medal of Honor recipient, shows photo of ring
Bristol Palin, eldest daughter of Sarah Palin, is engaged to a former Marine who served in Afghanistan.
Bristol Palin is engaged to a Medal of Honor recipient, and on Monday she put the news on Facebook for anyone who missed it -- or missed seeing her engagement ring -- over the weekend.
"Last night, Sgt Dakota Meyer proposed and I said yes!," Sarah Palin's eldest daughter announced Friday on her Patheos blog.
"Dakota came to Alaska to film Amazing America with my mom last year," the 24-year-old "Dancing With the Stars" alum wrote about the former U.S. Marine. "He met [my 6-year-old son] Tripp during that time, and I've seen him in a few places where our paths have crossed since. He's visited us in Alaska, and I've visited his wonderful family in Kentucky."
He's wonderful with Tripp and I'm so proud to be marrying him," Bristol Palin wrote, revealing that Meyer had proposed to her at a Rascal Flatts concert after the lead singer dedicated a song to the couple.
"I always heard people say 'when you meet the right one, you'll know,'" Meyer wrote on Facebook. "I never understood that until now. That, coupled with the fact that Marines aren't trained to stand around and let the grass grow under their feet led me to now."
Sarah Palin congratulated her daughter and future son-in-law via Facebook, saying, "Our families couldn't be happier for Bristol and Dakota! We're honored to welcome Dakota into our family.
"He's an American hero and patriot whose service to our country – like all his fellow Medal of Honor recipients – has been above and beyond the call of duty; but even more important is he's a good and kind man who loves Bristol and Tripp, and is loved by them."
Mama Grizzly also posted pictures of the happy couple together.
Bristol Palin was previously engaged to Levi Johnston, Tripp's father, with that news being announced on the first day of the 2008 Republican National Convention. They cut off their engagement in March 2009, shortly after their son was born, then got engaged for a second time -- again unsuccessfully -- in 2010.
Johnston married Sunny Oglesby in 2012 after having a child with her.
