Bobby Brown heads to jail for a short stretch, for DUI
Bobby Brown reported to court Wednesday and headed off to county jail, where he’ll be serving a 55-day sentence after pleading no contest in February to DUI and driving with a suspended license.
The October DUI arrest occurred when the R&B; singer was already on probation for the same offense earlier in 2012. He got 10 days for drunk driving, another 10 days for driving on a suspended license and 35 days for violating his probation.
Nonetheless, in L.A. County, “55 days” is code for “less than two weeks.”
Because of jail overcrowding and a couple of other factors -- good behavior and the like -- the onetime Mr. Whitney Houston will probably serve no more than nine days, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told L.A. Now.
Not that Brown’s completely off the hook when he gets out of the slammer. His deal includes four years’ probation, an 18-month alcohol-treatment program and three AA meetings a week, plus the indignity of having an alcohol interlock device installed on his car.
Wednesday was the latest Brown could turn himself in, per the court’s instructions when he was sentenced last month.
