Amanda Bynes’ hospital stay extended, conservatorship granted

Amanda Bynes will remain hospitalized for an additional 30 days and her mother has been granted a temporary conservatorship over the former actress’ finances and medical care, according to reports out Friday.

Bynes has been involuntarily hospitalized since late July 22 after she set a small fire in the driveway of a Thousand Oaks home, lighting her pants on fire in the process. Her initial 72-hour hold was later extended by two weeks, which ended Thursday night.

A judge traveled to the Ventura hospital where Bynes is being held to make the ruling about her continued care, TMZ reported. Doctors had reportedly made the decision that the “She’s the Man” star should stay in their care, in line with state law that says such an arrangement can be made only if the patient is “gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder,” the site said.

Doctors also determined that Bynes was not well enough to attend the Friday probate court hearing on the temporary conservatorship. She reportedly intended to fight against such an arrangement, which was pursued by her parents, Richard and Lynn Bynes, and awarded to Lynn.

Amanda is “not improving yet. ... These meds take longer than a week to work, and she’s only been given them for about a week,” a “well-placed” source told the New York Daily News on Thursday.

In the application for conservatorship, among other issues including the fire, paranoid behavior and body issues, the Byneses reportedly said they were concerned about evidence that their daughter had gone through $1.2 million of her $4 million bankroll.

The temporary conservatorship is in place until Sept. 30, at which time the Byneses may seek to have it made permanent.
