Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman says yes after Raiders’ Colton Underwood asks her out via video
Sure, Simone Biles got a visit from Zac Efron to go with her five Olympic medals — but Aly Raisman has a line on an actual date.
With a little help from friend and former gymnastics teammate Shawn Johnson, the 22-year-old said yes, in a video via Yahoo Sports, to a double-date with Raiders tight end Colton Underwood. Underwood, 24, asked the gold medalist out in a video presented to the gymnast during a chat about what kind of guy she’d like to date.
“I want a guy who respects me for how hard I work for my gymnastics, but I almost want a guy who doesn’t really care about it, doesn’t make a difference,” Raisman said. “Obviously you want a guy who can date a girl who’s successful and driven and has a career and has a goal, but you don’t want that to be the reason why they’re dating you.”
So, no fame-seekers need apply.
“I personally feel like I have a lot in common with athletes,” the floor-exercise silver medalist continued, “I would obviously want to date someone who likes to work out, just because you could work out together and you have stuff in common.” But not Rob Gronkowski, please. He can try on her medal after being so nice to her on Twitter, but “I think he’s a little more of a partier than I am. I’m a little bit more mellow.”
Enter Colton Underwood, and Shawn Johnson and her husband, Oakland Raiders long-snapper Andrew East. Seems Johnson and Russian American gymnast Nastia Liukin have been fighting over who’s going to find a man for the Final Five team captain, and maybe Johnson just won.
“Just wanted to congratulate you on all your success in the competitions and representing the USA over there,” Underwood told Raisman in a video date proposal where he said he and his teammates had been following the Olympics and her successes there, and were proud of her. “If you’re ever in San Jose and want to go on a double-date with me and Andrew and Shawn, let me know.”
How could she say no to that? “They’ve actually told me about him before,” she said with a little smile on her face after watching his gentlemanly video. “He’s very cute.”
Of course, Raisman said yes. “Yeah, I’d go on a date with him.” Maybe he’ll even “come to the show,” she said, when the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions swings through town in September.
With Underwood at 6-foot-3 to Raisman’s 5-2, could we have another Wladimir Klitschko-Hayden Pannettiere-type pairing on our hands?
By the way, it’s absolutely hands-off Efron, in case you were wondering. “That’s Simone’s guy,” Raisman said. “She’s made it very clear to me multiple times. And he’s totally off-limits for any of the other girls out there.”
