Alec Baldwin heckled by Genevieve Sabourin during stalker trial
Alec Baldwin can’t even testify in peace.
After arriving at court Tuesday amid the typical swarm of photographers and other members of the media, the former “30 Rock” actor was heckled on the stand by the woman he has accused of stalking him, Genevieve Sabourin.
Sabourin, a French Canadian aspiring actress, repeatedly shouted out commentary while Baldwin testified, according to the New York Daily News and New York Post. Finally, after being threatened by the judge with contempt of court, she was hustled out of court by her attorneys.
“Wow, you’re lying,” she yelled at Baldwin, the Daily News said, after he said they were never lovers. “I can’t believe you’re doing that!”
She claimed out loud that he had an identifying scar on his hip and added, “I gotta prove that I had a sexual relationship. I didn’t do anything wrong. He’s lying! He’s lying!” the paper said.
Baldwin admitted having dinner solo with Sabourin once to give her career advice, something he said he did as a favor to producer pal Martin Bregman, whom he said had been in a relationship with her but was trying to end it by helping her get a job. Baldwin also said they talked on the phone and exchanged emails over a period of a month, according to the Post.
Baldwin sobbed up on the stand, TMZ said, when talking about how Sabourin came to his house on the day he proposed to his wife, Hilaria. The Post, however, whose photographer Baldwin had insulted on his way into court, dutifully noted the actor was dabbing at dry eyes while he got emotional.
The MSNBC host says Sabourin appeared uninvited at his homes in the East Village and in East Hampton. She also allegedly sent multiple, increasingly alarming voice mails and e-mails.
“They varied wildly, either her sobbing and crying and begging me to call her and to commence this relationship with her or it would be her laughing and giggling and bubbling, talking about what we were going to do together in her imagination,” the actor said, according to the Post.
He said the final messages were threats.
Hilaria Baldwin was expected to testify later Tuesday.
Unlike Baldwin, who was his typical brusque self while working his way through the mob surrounding the courthouse, Sabourin reveled in the attention, sharing her side of the story happily with the photographers and reporters, as can be seen in the video above. Her attorney had to practically drag her into the courthouse, and she continued chatting with media the whole way in.
[For the Record, 12:30 p.m. PST Nov. 12: An earlier version of this post gave the name of the woman accused of stalking Alec Baldwin as Gabrielle Sabourin. Her name is Genevieve Sabourin.]
