Laura Dern: Get that ‘Enlightened’ Kickstarter campaign going
Laura Dern’s HBO comedy “Enlightened” may have been canceled in March but, as the actress noted in a live video chat, that doesn’t mean it’s gone for good.
After all, Dern’s close friend Mitch Hurwitz (“Arrested Development”) saw his show find renewed life years after it went off the air. And, Dern confirmed, “Enlightened” creator Mike White has long had a concrete plan for a third season.
Even more tantalizing: Dern said she had been talking to directors Alexander Payne (whom she worked with on “Citizen Ruth”) and David Lynch about coming on board for future episodes. If that isn’t enough to kick-start that crowdfunding campaign, we don’t know what is.

Dern spoke of her attachment to Amy, “Enlightened’s” endearing and infuriating main character, as a woman who “harnessed deep emotion for a good cause.” She also went into wonderful specifics about favorite scenes and lines from the series’ past season.
Dern’s passion for the show clearly hasn’t waned, and if Emmy voters remember her next month, perhaps that second life might not be as far off as we think.
