Golden Globes 2013: ‘Life of Pi’ and ‘Skyfall’ win music awards
Call it beginner’s luck, or at least an auspicious start: First-time nominees won Golden Globes for both original score and original song for a motion picture.
Composer Mychael Danna was recognized for his score for “Life of Pi,” director Ang Lee’s fantastical tale of an Indian boy who is stranded at sea and shares his lifeboat with a fearsome Bengal tiger. Among those he competed with were John Williams, for “Lincoln,” and “Alexandre Desplat, for “Argo.”
During his acceptance speech, Danna thanked his director on behalf of the cast and crew “for guiding us all to shore so safely.”

Up next was the British soul singer Adele, who won the award (along with Paul Epworth) for best original song with “Skyfall,” the theme to the newest James Bond film of the same name.
The song, a sultry throwback number, beat out Taylor Swift’s “Safe & Sound,” from “The Hunger Games,” and Alain Boublil, Claude-Michael Schonberg and Herbert Kretzmer’s “Suddenly,” which was newly written for the film adaptation of the musical “Les Miserables.”
Despite having nine Grammys, Adele seemed genuinely surprised to have won, beginning her acceptance speech by exclaiming “Oh, my God!” four times.
“It’s very strange to be here,” the singer said. “Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your world for a night. It’s amazing. We’ve been pissing ourselves laughing.”
