Golden Globes’ world of partying
Awards season officially kicks into fifth gear with Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony at the Beverly Hilton hotel. As nominees prepare to descend upon the carpet, studios rush to produce elaborate parties to celebrate them. It’s not news to you that you probably aren’t invited to these Champagne-soaked fetes (hey, your name isn’t Ben Affleck, right?), but you’re still curious about them. Here are some of this weekend’s most highly anticipated soirees.
FRIDAY
W magazine’s Best Performances: This party has become a glitzy Golden Globes tradition with W’s editor in chief Stefano Tonchi, it’s editor at large Lynn Hirschberg and André Balazs celebrating some of the most glamorous images shot of Hollywood in 2012 inside the penthouse of Balazs’ Chateau Marmont hotel. Photos on display by photographer Juergen Teller, which are featured in the magazine’s Best Performances issue, include Globes nominees Bradley Cooper and Daniel Day-Lewis.
SATURDAY
Les Misérables supper party: With the epic musical “Les Misérables” up for best motion picture — comedy or musical, as well as its star Hugh Jackman for best actor, Universal’s Ron Meyer, Adam Foldelson and Donna Langley are hosting a luxe supper party for the nominees at Spago. Chef Wolfgang Puck’s newly remodeled restaurant will serve up a feast made for would-be kings, and Champagne toasts will abound.

BAFTA tea: In another long tradition, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts will hold its annual tea party at the Beverly Hills Four Seasons Hotel in a patriotic show of support for this year’s crop of nominees. Dainty tea cakes, lots of convivial back-slapping and plenty of tea and Champagne are the hallmarks of this event.
SUNDAY
The Weinstein Co.: This exclusive black-tie affair takes place in the old Trader Vic’s, where Harvey Weinstein will make much ado about 2013’s impressive roster of nominees including “Django Unchained,” “The Master” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”
HBO: HBO never fails to throw a lavish party on Golden Globes night, and this year will be no different. The gathering takes place beside the Beverly Hilton’s pool and will honor HBO’s large group of nominees, including Lena Dunham with “Girls,” and Jeff Daniels with “The Newsroom.”
Fox: Located in a tent outside of the hotel, the Fox party is sure to be off the hook as the company is responsible for some of the year’s most celebrated films, including “Life of Pi” and “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” as well as a number of hit TV shows.
NBC / Universal Pictures / Focus Features: This party takes place on the rooftop of the hotel’s parking garage. High hopes abound that “Les Misérables” will take the prize for best musical, and if that’s the case, this will be one of the evening’s biggest events. Free-flowing booze and a performance by the Saturdays are also in store.
InStyle / Warner Bros.: This massive affair takes place inside an octagonal tent in the Oasis Courtyard. A DJ and more than 1,000 guests should make this one of the night’s most vibrant parties. Things will really get thumping if Affleck and “Argo” take home an award.
