Margaret Sixel wins film editing Oscar for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’
In a win as inevitable as an armored semi bearing down in a narrow pass, the wildly kinetic “Mad Max: Fury Road” collected the film editing Oscar.
Veteran editor Margaret Sixel (“Babe: Pig in the City,” “Happy Feet”) had racked up wins up and down the awards circuit, including taking the feature film (dramatic) prize at the American Cinema Editors’ Eddies. Sixel, who happens to be “Mad Max” director George Miller’s wife, reportedly spent three months just watching the film’s 480 hours of footage.

Miller has said the two-hour film contained about 2,700 edits. Rather than stabbing her director, however, Sixel cut her way to her first Oscar nomination — and win.
