Emmys 2013: American designers get a chance to shine
The Emmys mark the official kickoff of awards show season, but there’s the impression that less is at stake when it comes to red carpet fashion, because the audience is not as global as it is for the Oscars and the Golden Globes. So traditionally, the European houses skip it altogether, which can mean a lot of bland fashion on the Emmys red carpet.
But not so this year. Chic simplicity is a real trend right now, and nobody does that like American designers, who are getting their moment in the spotlight.
Tina Fey has never looked better than she does in her custom royal blue tank gown by New York-based Narciso Rodriguez. It’s simple and no-nonsense, which is much better than when Fey has tried to work anything froofy.
Also strong and sleek? Taylor Schilling’s white column gown by Thakoon Panuchgal, and Allison Williams’ strapless royal blue Ralph Lauren gown.
I also like Morgan Saylor’s graphic black-and-white gown by Honor, designed by Giovanna Randall in New York, and Anna Farris’ sunshine yellow Monique Lhuillier gown with a high leg slit and draped bodice.
You can never go wrong with bold color.
