NBC plans ‘Hairspray’ as its next live musical
It’s looking like it will soon be mashed potato time on NBC: The peacock network is planning to tackle “Hairspray” as its next live musical production.
NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt made the announcement Wednesday at the top of the network’s day of panels at the Television Critics Assn. media tour in Pasadena. However, he offered the caveat that the network is still working on closing deals.
The live presentation, set for December, is again to be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who have produced all the NBC live musical productions thus far. Zadan and Meron also produced the 2007 movie musical remake of the original 1988 John Waters film.
