Suit accuses ‘X-Men’ director Bryan Singer of sexual assault in 1999
A lawsuit filed in Hawaii on Wednesday accuses Bryan Singer, the director of films including “X-Men,” of sexually assaulting a teenager 15 years ago.
According to the suit, Singer promised a young actor roles in an “X-Men” movie, commercials and other projects if the teen gave in to the director’s sexual demands. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Hawaii, also claims that Singer threatened to “destroy” the plaintiff’s career if he didn’t.
Singer’s attorneys have told media outlets that the accusations are “completely without merit.”
The attorney for the plaintiff, Jeff Herman, will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. Because he is the possible victim of a sex crime, the plaintiff’s name is being withheld by The Times.
Singer is a prominent director known for movies including “X-Men,” “X-Men 2” and “Superman Returns.” His next project is “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which will be released in theaters May 23.
