TV ratings: NBC leads State of the Union night with ‘Biggest Loser’
It looks like NBC is leading the way among young adult viewers with the help of the weight-loss series “The Biggest Loser” on the night that all four major networks carried live coverage of President Obama’s State of the Union address.
That’s according to preliminary numbers Wednesday from Nielsen, which are not adjusted for time zones and thus not very reliable.
Still, if numbers hold, NBC earned a rating of 1.5 in prime time on Tuesday in the 18-49 age demographic, higher than CBS, ABC and Fox. “The Biggest Loser” drew about 6.6 million viewers and a rating of 1.7 in the key demographic, making it the top non-news telecast as it revealed the finalists for its 15th season. However, it slipped 11% from last week’s episode.
CBS’ rerun of “NCIS” was the most-watched show, with an average of more than 11.4 million viewers.

According to the preliminary numbers, coverage of the address itself -- which started at 9 p.m. EST and lasted more than an hour -- drew an average of 7.4 million total viewers to CBS, 5.6 million to NBC, 4.9 million to ABC and 2.8 million to Fox. In the advertiser-preferred 18-49 age group, NBC’s coverage earned a 1.4, leading CBS (1.3), ABC (1.1) and Fox (1.0). Final numbers will be released later Wednesday.
On the CW, “Supernatural” drew 2.8 million viewers -- its most-watched episode since May 2010 -- and rose a tick to a 1.2 in 18-49. “Originals” fell to a 1.0 in 18-49, but was flat in the 18-34 age group.
