TV ratings: Fox’s ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ surges against reruns
With nothing but reruns on CBS and no new “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” some TV viewers checked out Fox’s comedy lineup Tuesday night.
Leading off prime time, the politically incorrect freshman comedy “Dads” drew an average of 3.8 million viewers and a rating of 1.5 in the key 18-49 age group, according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen. The Seth Green-starring series rose 25% among advertiser-coveted young adults compared with last week’s episode.
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” the surprise Golden Globe-winner featuring Andy Samberg as a brash young cop, rose 36% to a 1.9 in the 18-49 demographic, tying NBC’s “Biggest Loser” as the night’s highest rated telecast on the major networks.
“New Girl” and “Mindy Project” also gained double-digit percentages, to a 1.8 and a 1.5 respectively. It remains to be seen whether the sitcoms can retain any of the viewers they pulled from “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

NBC beat Fox, ABC and CBS in the key demo as the makeover episode of “Biggest Loser” garnered a demo rating of 1.9, up 12% from last week, while “Chicago Fire” remained flat with last week’s rating of 1.8.
ABC’s freshman comedies had a rough night without an original “S.H.I.E.L.D.” “The Goldbergs” shrunk 17% in the demo to a 1.5 (but still had more viewers overall than any of Fox’s comedies), while “Trophy Wife” dropped a bit to a 1.0, its lowest number ever. The low-rated “Killer Women” was flat with last week’s 0.7.
On the CW, “Supernatural” hooked its biggest audience since 2010 with 2.7 million viewers on average and rose 10% to a 1.1 in 18-49 from last week. A new “Originals” grew its 18-49 number 11% week-to-week to a 1.0, but the network’s numbers are tentative because of preemptions for coverage of NCAA basketball games in some areas.
