Time Warner Cable loses standard definition Super Bowl feed
Time Warner Cable subscribers in Los Angeles watching the Super Bowl in standard definition lost a big chunk of the game and halftime show due to technical issues.
The analog signal of Fox’s KTTV-TV Channel 11 Los Angeles went dark toward the end of the second quarter and was not repaired until about midway through the third quarter.
However, the feed of Time Warner Cable’s high-definition channel carrying Fox’s coverage of the game was not interrupted. The majority of the region’s subscribers have digital boxes and thus were not affected by the blackout.
TIMELINE: Best Super Bowl ads through the years
A Time Warner Cable spokesman said the company apologizes for the inconvenience to its customers. The company didn’t say how many viewers lost the signal and were without digital boxes to view the high-definition feed.
The signal outage comes just days after Time Warner Cable brass announced plans to upgrade its Los Angeles sytems and new Chief Executive Rob Marcus pledged to improve customer service at the company. Another cable company, Charter Communications, has made an offer for Time Warner Cable, which was rejected.
Ironically, Time Warner Cable shelled out millions to run an ad during the Super Bowl touting its service that featured Sean Combs and members of the cast of “Duck Dynasty.”
“Whatever you are passionate about, Time Warner Cable invents ways for you to enjoy it even better,” the ad promised.
Except, apparently watching the Super Bowl without technical difficulties.
