Walt Disney Co. unveiled the first computer rendering of its Shanghai Disney Resort at the company’s annual meeting in Phoenix on Wednesday morning.

Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger told the gathering that the theme park would open at the end of 2015. “It is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese,” he said.

The image that Iger unveiled depicts the 11-acre center of the park, which includes the Enchanted Storybook Castle -- a prominent feature at other Disney theme parks around the world.

Shanghai Disney Resort, which is under construction, is slated to include two hotels, 495,000 square feet of retail space, a dining and entertainment venue, a lake and other facilities and amenities.

Iger said he has spent 15 years on the Shanghai project to make it a reality. “This is personally very special to me,” he said.
