Disney inks deals with Amazon and Microsoft for movies service
Walt Disney Co.’s proprietary cloud-based movie service is now available to customers of Amazon Video and Microsoft Movies & TV.
The service, Disney Movies Anywhere, gives users online access to their digital and physical Disney movie purchases. It already worked with iTunes, Google Play and Vudu.
Tuesday’s addition of Amazon and Microsoft’s online content services coincides with the digital release of Burbank-based Disney’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” The film, released May 1, has grossed about $1.4 billion this year.

Disney Movies Anywhere, which launched in February 2014, acts as a “digital movie locker,” allowing users to manage and view films they’ve bought online, as well as store digital copies of their physical Blu-ray and DVD purchases.
Owners of the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Amazon’s Fire tablets, Fire TV and Fire TV Stick will now be able to access the service via an app, which can also be used to connect with online retailers to purchase films.
On Sept. 15, the Disney Movies Anywhere app will become available to users of Roku and Android TV.
