Universal releases original ‘Battlestar Galactica’ on Blu-ray
One of the most highly anticipated, heavily promoted new TV shows in the fall of 1978 was ABC’s “Battlestar Galactica,” a lavish, effects-driven “Star Wars”-inspired sci-fi adventure. “Galactica,” created by Glen A. Larson, starred Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict. The series, though, didn’t go into the stratosphere and crashed after one season. The spinoff “Galactica 1980” fared no better. (SyFy had much more success last decade with its reboot.) Over the decades, the original series has gained in reputation and developed a loyal following. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment just released two sets of the series on Blu-ray: “Battlestar Galactica: The Definitive Collection” and “Battlestar Galactica: The Remastered Collection,” which features the series in the widescreen format.
