‘Endgame’ and ‘The Boy from Oz’ lead in 2016 Ovation Award nominations
Nominees for the 27th annual L.A. Stage Alliance Ovation Awards were announced Wednesday.
La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts led with 22 nominations. The group’s productions of “American Idiot” and “First Date” each earned seven nominations, while “Dreamgirls” and “Empire” picked up four apiece.
Center Theatre Group nabbed 20 nominations, including 10 mentions for “Endgame” and six for “Father Comes Home From the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3)” at the Mark Taper Forum.
With “Guards at the Taj” and “Barcelona” leading the way, Geffen Playhouse earned 18 nominations, while Celebration Theatre garnered 16 nominations, including 10 for “The Boy from Oz.”
As far as individual productions, “Endgame” and “The Boy from Oz” tied for the top spot with 10 nods each.
Last year’s big winners included Circle X Theatre’s “Trevor,” Center Theatre Group’s “Chavez Ravine” and “Spring Awakening” from Deaf West Theatre and Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. Awards are determined by local producers, directors, actors and other theater professionals chosen through an application process.
