‘The Curious Incident of the Dog’ coming to Broadway in fall

The popular London stage adaptation of the Mark Haddon novel “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” will be coming to Broadway in the fall, organizers announced on Wednesday. The play will run at the Barrymore Theatre in New York, though no opening date has been announced.

“Curious,” adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens, is directed by Marianne Elliott, the acclaimed director of “War Horse.” The production originated at London’s National Theatre in 2012 and later kicked off an open-ended run on the West End.

The play’s run at London’s Apollo Theatre was recently disrupted when part of the theater’s ceiling collapsed during a performance on Dec. 19, resulting in several reported injuries but no fatalities. The production is scheduled to reopen at the Gielgud Theatre in June as repairs continue at the Apollo.

“Curious” follows the adventures of a a boy with an Asperger’s syndrome-like condition who investigates the death of a local canine. The book was critically acclaimed when it was published in 2003. The film rights to the novel have been acquired by Warner Bros.

The Broadway engagement of the play will be produced by London’s National Theatre. The London production won seven Olivier Awards -- Britain’s equivalent of the Tonys -- last year, the most ever won by a play.
