Ashlee Simpson to star in ‘Chicago’ at Hollywood Bowl
Ashlee Simpson -- pop star, reality TV veteran and younger sister to uber-celebrity Jessica Simpson -- will play the role of Roxie Hart in the production of the musical “Chicago” at the Hollywood Bowl this month.
Simpson, whose dating life is regularly covered by online gossip sites, won’t be playing Roxie for the first time. The singer previously appeared in “Chicago” on London’s West End and in the long-running Broadway revival at the Ambassador Theatre.
As previously announced, “True Blood” actor Stephen Moyer will play Billy Flynn and “Les Misérables” actress Samantha Barks will take the role of Velma Kelly. The supporting cast will feature Drew Carey as Amos Hart, Roxie’s husband, and former “Xena: Warrior Princess” star Lucy Lawless as Mama Morton.

“Chicago” will be directed by Brooke Shields, who has also played Roxie on Broadway. The production will run for three performances at the Bowl from July 26 to 28.
Simpson is best known for her hit singles “Pieces of Me” and “La La.” In 2004 the pop star was criticized for lip-syncing during an appearance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”
Roxie, Simpson’s character in “Chicago,” is an aspiring entertainer who is accused of murder and becomes a media celebrity.
