Ai Weiwei goes ‘Gangnam Style’ in video tribute to Psy
One media zeitgeist meets another in a new video posted by artist Ai Weiwei showing himself dancing “Gangnam Style.” Ai tweeted the video of himself on Wednesday dancing in the style of Korean pop star Psy’s popular music video, which has become an international hit.
The video, which you can watch above, shows Ai dancing with colleagues at his Beijing studio.
Ai is currently the subject of a career retrospective at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington. He has stated that he is unable to attend the show because Chinese officials still hold his passport. The artist, who has gained international fame for his free-speech activism, was thrown into secret detention last year and was released after 81 days.
Ai’s video comes on the heels of Tuesday night’s group rendition of “Gangnam Style” by contestants on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
