The A+D Architecture and Design Museum of Los Angeles has announced the departure of its executive director and the launch of a search to replace her.

Tibbie Dunbar is leaving A+D after a nearly 12-year tenure that included some noted exhibitions such as “Never Built: Los Angeles,” a show that Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne called “revelatory” for its look at decades of design ideas that never got past the drawing board. Tibbie also oversaw the institution’s move from Museum Row on Wilshire Boulevard to 4th Street downtown last year.

Dunbar is leaving for a position outside of the museum community, an A+D spokeswoman said. Dunbar’s resignation is effective Feb. 1.

A+D also announced the appointment of Eric Stultz to a two-year term as president of the museum’s board of directors. Stultz is a design principal at Gensler and has been an A+D board member for seven years.
