Man shot to death in remote area of Malibu, authorities say
The body of a man who had been shot to death was discovered in a remote area of Malibu on Wednesday afternoon, according to homicide investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The unidentified man in his 30s was shot multiple times in the upper body in what appears to be a targeted shooting, Lt. Mike Modica with Sheriff’s Department said.
“We believe it’s not a random act,” Modica said.
Authorities responded to the 800 block of Westlake Boulevard shortly before 3 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, officials said in a news release.
The body was found in western Malibu on an off-road tract near Highway 23.
A person who was driving through the tract discovered an off-road truck parked at the top of a steep incline and then found the man’s body nearby, Modica said. Investigators called to the scene found ballistic evidence indicating that the shooting took place at the location, he said.
Investigators believe the dead man and his killer or killers were on the tract before the shooting and there does not appear to be any threat to the community, Modica said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact sheriff’s homicide investigators at (323) 890-5500.
