LAPD officers shoot, kill man as he was stabbing victim outside Reseda Denny’s
Los Angeles police shot and killed a knife-wielding man as he was stabbing another person outside a Denny’s restaurant in Reseda on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
LAPD officers responded to multiple calls, the first at 11:09 a.m., of a man carrying a blade near the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Saticoy Street.
The man was found on top of the victim holding a knife, according to police. Police fired 40-millimeter less-lethal rounds, which can sometimes still result in fatalities, at him after he failed to comply with orders to drop the knife, they said.
The rounds failed to stop the man, who began stabbing the victim, according to police. Officers then fired on the man and killed him.
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was trying to stop the driver speeding and doing ‘donuts’ when the driver intentionally rammed his patrol vehicle, authorities said.
Firefighters declared the man dead at the scene, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Margaret Stewart. He was not identified but was described as in his 30s.
The stabbing victim, who the LAFD said was also in their 30s, is stable at a hospital.
Whatever relationship existed between the two was unknown.
The Los Angeles Police Department did not answer questions regarding the numbers of officers involved or shots fired.
