A man and a woman were found stabbed to death Monday afternoon in Altadena in an attack that was partially captured on Zoom, investigators said.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department station in Altadena received a call at 2:45 p.m. of a possible kidnapping in progress.

The caller had been on a Zoom videoconference when she saw the woman with whom she was talking being attacked and dragged off, Lt. Barry Hall said.

Deputies responded to the 3000 block of North Marengo Avenue and found a man’s body in a driveway and a woman’s body inside the home. Both victims, who were in their 60s, had been stabbed to death.

They were not a couple, and their relationship wasn’t known Monday evening.

A knife possibly used in the attack was recovered at the scene, Hall said.

About an hour after deputies arrived, a man showed up at the house driving a Lexus SUV that belonged to one of the victims, Hall said. The man was being detained Monday night as a person of interest, Hall said.

Detectives were not searching for other suspects Monday night.

A motive for the attack remained unclear. Hall said it wasn’t known if anything had been stolen from the home.
