Yahoo reveals its workforce, too, is dominated by men
Yahoo became the latest Silicon Valley tech company to publicize its workplace diversity statistics, revealing a company that is overwhelmingly male, especially in its upper echelons.
Women make up only 15% of tech workers and 37% of total employees, Yahoo reported Tuesday in a global breakdown of its workforce. And even though it has a female CEO in Marissa Mayer, the company’s leadership is 77% male.
The company also reported that 50% of its U.S. workers are white and 39% are Asian. African Americans and Latinos make up just 6% of U.S. workers.
“We’re in the business of building products for hundreds of millions of users worldwide and that starts with having the best possible talent -- a Yahoo team that understands and reflects our diverse user base,” said Jacqueline Reses, Yahoo’s chief development officer, in the report. “These statistics are only a part of the story.”
Google made news in May when its diversity figures revealed 70% of the company’s workers are men. LinkedIn said last week that men make up 61% of its workers.
