William Shatner’s ‘Shatoetry’ app recites messages in actor’s voice
By far the biggest drawback with the iPhone is the lack of apps that can recite messages in a dramatic thespian’s voice. Luckily, William Shatner, a.k.a. Captain Kirk, has come to the rescue.
The space-traveling, price negotiating actor has released his own app for the iPhone called “Shatoetry.” The app lets you craft a voice message using Shatner-recorded words.
You build your Shatoetry by picking out words and tossing them onto a screen featuring a silly picture of the actor. There, you can arrange the words in the order you want them read, and of course, you can add his iconic pauses to bring just the right amount of drama to your Shatoetry. Each word is also recorded in three different ways, so you can adjust how Shatner recites them.
Once you’ve created your so-called Shatoetry, you can save it to your Camera Roll, email it or share it with your friends over Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.
Shatoetry “is as different and as unique as a sunrise,” Shatner told The Times in a video interview, which you can see above. “Anything that you want to communicate you can draw up on these words and I say them.”
You can download the Shatoetry app from the Apple App Store starting today for $2.99.
