Blast from the past: Twitter search now finds old tweets

Twitter has made it possible for its search tool to display some tweets older than a week -- a feature users have long been asking to have.

“Previously, Twitter search results displayed Tweets going back about a week. We’ve developed a way to include older Tweets, so you can see content that goes beyond the more recent Tweets,” Twitter said in a blog announcing its search tool’s new capabilities.

It, however, doesn’t mean that Twitter search will display all tweets that have ever been sent. Instead, it will display only top tweets.

The company said that it is using a combination of engagement factors, meaning tweets that have been “favorited” or retweeted, to determine which older tweets its search tool will show.

“We’ll be steadily increasing this percentage over time, and ultimately, aim to surface the best content for your query,” the company said. “For now, enjoy your trip down memory lane!”
