Steve Jobs biopic lands Aaron Sorkin as screenwriter
Sony Pictures has hired Academy Award-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin for its upcoming biopic on Steve Jobs.
Sorkin’s task will be to adapt last year’s biography of Jobs by Walter Isaacson, and his hiring has been well received, likely due to his recent work adapting other books for the big screen.
Last year, Sorkin was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on “Moneyball,” and in 2010, he won an Oscar for his adaptation for “The Social Network.” Before that, Sorkin was also highly successful with the TV show “The West Wing,” winning a couple of Emmy awards.
Sorkin also wrote the script for “A Few Good Men,” and his most recent work has been as creator of the HBO show “The Newsroom,” which is set to premier next month.
Sorkin’s hire comes about a month after Ashton Kutcher was cast to play the lead role in another film about the Apple co-founder. Kutcher, whose casting has been criticized, was recently spotted in a full-blown Jobs outfit, seemingly getting ready for his role.
The two films, however, will not be the first time Jobs has been portrayed in film. Actor Noah Wyle played the entrepreneur in the 1999 made-for-TV movie “Pirates of Silicon Valley.”
