Nokia to hold press event May 14 in London; speculation rampant
Nokia, taking a chapter right out of Apple’s playbook, is sending invitations for a press event that gives only a hint of what it might be about.
It’s unclear what the Finnish phone maker will unveil at the May 14 event in London, but the invitation gives two clues. It says: “The Nokia Lumia story continues,” and in a much harder-to-see text, adds: “See what’s next.”
Such invites have been an Apple hallmark that often fuels rampant speculation and generates buzz.

For Nokia’s press event, there’s already several theories floating around. Here are some of the top speculations:
- Nokia may announce the Lumia 928, a phone for Verizon that is similar to its AT&T-exclusive flagship the Lumia 920. This phone is expected by some to arrive next month, but holding an event in London for an American phone doesn’t make much sense.
- The rumored aluminum Lumia. Last year’s Lumia 920 got rave reviews, except many people were bothered by how large it was. Since then, reports have come out that Nokia is working on an aluminum-body device that should be lighter. Could we see it at this event?
- A smartphone with a 41-megapixel camera. Nokia has been focusing on giving its phones top-notch cameras, and recently, it has been rumored to be working on a device with a 41-megapixel camera that would produce a highly detailed image. This event would be as good a time as any to show off tech like that.
