Cowabunga! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arrive on iPhone, iPad
Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael -- the turtles, not the artists -- made their way onto smartphones and tablets for the first time Thursday, in a new app called “Rooftop Run.”
The new video game is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and lets users control the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as they try to stop an invasion by their enemies, the Kraang.
Similar to the game “Temple Run,” “Rooftop Run” lets users scroll through a city for as long as they can fight off enemies, collecting power ups so they can attain the highest score possible. Users also collect coins that they can use to purchase upgrades for their characters. Users can also pay real money to obtain those upgrades.

As users collect power ups, they will also eventually enter “Turtle Time,” which is where the camera zooms in and a special combat mode is enabled. That lets the user fight up close and personal as his or her favorite turtle.
Though the game includes Leonardo’s swords, Michelangelo’s nunchucks, Donatello’s staff, Raphael’s twin sais and plenty of pizza, these are not your childhood’s 2-D Ninja Turtles. Just like on the Nickelodeon show, the Ninja Turtles in “Rooftop Run” are 3-D and computer-animated.
The game, which is based on the cartoon series that runs on Nickelodeon, is available for $1.99 on the Apple App Store.
