Apple to announce iPad mini on Oct. 23?
Apple may yet announce the iPad mini this month, according to a report Friday that says the Cupertino-based company will unveil the device on Oct. 23.
All Things D, citing sources familiar with Apple, said the company will hold an invitation-only event a week and a half from now to unveil its latest product.
Where the announcement will be held has not been confirmed, but the report speculates that Apple will announce the iPad mini at its Town Hall Auditorium. Previously, Apple has announced the iPhone 4S, OS X Lion and a version of the MacBook Air at that location.

Although the report sounds confident on the date and is backed up by another tech news site, iMore.com, there is always the chance that it could be wrong. Just look at what happened with Fortune magazine earlier this week.
On Wednesday, a reporter at Fortune apologized after he reported that Apple would send out invitations that day to the iPad mini announcement. But the day came and went without any invitations.
As far as the device, the iPad mini is expected to have a 7.85-inch screen, an aluminum back, the new Lightning connector and dual speakers. It is also expected to be available in Wi-Fi versions only.
