Instagram reaches 200 million users, more than 20 billion photos
Photo-sharing social network Instagram announced this week that it now has 200 million monthly active users.
The milestone is an indicator for healthy user growth on the service, which Facebook purchased for $1 billion nearly two years ago.
Instagram said it reached 100 million users in February 2013, so the service managed to double in about a year.

“To the 50 million of you who’ve joined in the last six months, welcome,” Instagram said in a blog post. “We’re so glad you’re here. And from our team to all 200 million of you, thank you for making Instagram great. We can’t wait to see what you’ll create next.”
Additionally, the social network said its users have now uploaded more than 20 billion pictures, and on average, users post 60 million photos per day.
Instagram shared its news as Facebook announced its latest major acquisition. The Menlo Park company said Tuesday that it bought virtual-reality startup Oculus for $2 billion.
