HTC announces two Windows Phone devices: the 8X and 8S

HTC announced two new Windows Phone devices that will launch in time for the holidays.

The Taiwanese company unveiled the Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S in New York on Wednesday morning.

The 8x has a 4.3-inch HD screen and comes in four vibrant colors -- blue, black, red and yellow -- according to the Verge, which covered the announcement. The phone has a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. It’S NFC enabled and comes with 16 GB of storage. The 8X has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front camera that can shoot 1080p HD video.

The 8X will launch in early November and will be available from AT&T;, T-Mobile and Verizon.

At the event, HTC also boasted about the 8X’s smaller counterpart, the 8S. It features a 4-inch screen, 1Ghz dual-core S4 processor, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage, according to the Verge post. The phone features a 5-megapixel rear camera and has no front-facing camera. It too is planned for an early November releases.

HTC, in a tweet, said the phones support Beats Audio headphones.

The HTC Windows Phones line will vie against Nokia for customers seeking new Windows Phone 8 devices. HTC President Jason Mackenzie wasn’t shy about how he felt about the new HTC phones.

“The #HTC8 is THE signature @WindowsPhone line. We’re going big!” he said in a company tweet.
