HTC One (M8) announced: Where, when and how to get it
HTC on Tuesday announced its next flagship device: the One (M8).
Besides its funky name, the HTC One (M8) features a five-inch 1080p HD display, comes with 32 gigabytes of storage and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with the HTC Sense 6 interface. The device is powered by a 2.3-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and it comes with a microSD slot.
The One (M8) differs from the 2013 HTC One in numerous ways. For starters, the device is slightly longer due to its five-inch screen -- last year’s model was 4.7 inches. The body of the device also has a more round design than before, theoretically making it more comfortable to hold.

The device also features two cameras on its back. The point of this so-called “duo camera” is to let users readjust the focus of their picture even after they have already shot it.
HTC also has packed the device with numerous motion gestures, such as the ability to answer a phone call by simply raising the device to one’s ear.
The One (M8) is available from HTC online now, and it will also be supported by the four major U.S. carriers. Here’s when and where you can get the gadget from each:
Verizon
The New Jersey carrier will be the first company to sell the HTC One (M8) at its stores, starting today. The carrier has the exclusive right to sell the device in stores until April 9. Users can also buy the device online now.
Customers can get the gadget for $199.99 with a two-year plan, and if they add a new line, Verizon said they can get a second HTC One (M8) for free.
Verizon offers the device in silver and gray options.
AT&T
The Texas carrier is taking online orders for the device immediately, but customers will have to wait for HTC One (M8) to be shipped to them. AT&T only offers the device in the gray option.
AT&T said the device is available for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Customers can also buy the device for $24.62 per month with the AT&T Next 18 plan or $32 per month with the AT&T Next 12 plan. The AT&T Next plans allow users to upgrade early when they trade their phone in or keep the device after they pay a total of about $640.
Sprint
Sprint is also now taking orders for the HTC One (M8). Customers can get the gadget for $199.99 with a two-year contract or for $0 down with 24 monthly payments of $27.09, for a total of $650.16.
Customers who order the device online will have to wait a few days for it to be delivered. Sprint said it will sell the device in stores in early April.
T-Mobile
[Update 2:30 p.m. PDT March 25: T-Mobile announced that it would begin selling the HTC One (M8) in stores and online April 11. The device will be available for zero down followed by 24 monthly payments of $26.50 a month, for a total of $636.
Initially, T-Mobile had confirmed only that it would carry the device. The Seattle carrier announced pricing and release date information Tuesday afternoon.]
[Updated 1:15 p.m. PDT March 25: Best Buy is also taking online orders for the HTC One (M8). The electronics retailer said it would exclusively offer the device in a gold color option as well as the standard gray version.
The device is available for $199.99 with a two-year contract for either Verizon, AT&T or Sprint. Best Buy did not say when the device would be available in stores.]
