As expected, porn industry quick to adopt Google Glass
It isn’t even available to the public yet, but that hasn’t stopped the porn industry from being an early adopter of Google Glass.
MiKandi, the company that tried to launch a Google Glass porn app earlier this year before Google banned it, released a trailer for the first pornographic movie shot with Google Glass. The producers used the camera feature of the smart glasses to shoot a “point-of-view” movie.
“While the tech giant has restricted sexually explicit material in Glass apps, or Glassware, there is no current restriction on the sort of content created with the innovative device,” MiKandi said Tuesday.
Google Glass has yet to be released to the public. The device has been sold only to a few thousand developers and early adopters. The Mountain View, Calif., tech giant has been distributing the devices slowly since April. Early users had to pay $1,500 for the gadget.
Glass works similar to smartphones but is worn on a user’s head like eyeglasses. The device can shoot video and pictures and can be used to search Google and send and receive phone calls and text messages, among other tasks.
The porn industry has a history of adopting new technology faster than others. It was quick to embrace the VCR, and more recently it has optimized its movies for tablets and smartphones. During the 2000s, the adult industry was also seen as a deciding factor in the format war between HD DVD and Blu-Ray.
