To celebrate its quinceañera, Google offers Doodle piñata to whack

A 15th birthday, or quinceañera, is a very special occasion for young Latinas. It’s also apparently very important for Google.

The search giant has been pulling out all the stops this week to make its 15th anniversary a memorable one. It’s latest celebration came in the form of its Google Doodle.

If users head over to Google.com and press play on the birthday doodle, the image will turn into an interactive mini game that features a piñata. Users can then press their keyboard space bar to whack the piñata.

The doodle comes one day after Google revealed a new Easter egg that also celebrated the company’s birthday. In addition, if users type “Google in 1998” into the search engine, the website will take on the look that it had when Google originally launched.

Google also did some celebrating outside the Internet, by taking journalists to a garage in Menlo Park, Calif., that was one of the first spots where co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin started work on their tech giant.

As part of the festivities, the company also announced that it has started using a new algorithm for its search engine called Hummingbird. The update is the biggest since 2010, according to the company, and the biggest difference is that users can now search by typing complex questions, not just a couple of keywords.
