Facebook testing new format for comments on pages

Facebook has told The Times it is testing out a new format for pages that brings comments with the most engagement to the top of posts.

Currently, posts on pages show comments in chronological order while the format that is being tested would determine order based on engagement, such as how many Likes a comment gets or how many people hide it.

The reformat should create better experiences for users as it would highlight interesting comments and filter others.

The feature is currently a small test. But users and page admins have both been requesting the new format, according to Facebook. Don’t be surprised if this test is fully adopted and moves out of the test stage.

Additionally, Facebook earlier told The Times that it is also testing a reply feature for comments. This feature, which is being tested on both pages and individual users, creates threads that make it easier to follow conversations that spin out of comments left on posts.

For example, now when you post a status and receive comments from separate friends, you could choose to keep the conversations apart and individually reply to each comment.
